I tried to read this book before and couldn't really get into it. I enjoyed the movie greatly so I want to try again. I will post a classic help with this one. Here is the summary:
'How sad it is! I shall grow old, and horrid, and dreadful. But this picture will remain always young… If it was only the other way!'
Wilde's first and only published novel recounts the story of handsome Dorian Gray who upon having his portrait painted desires that it will age and grow ugly while he may remain eternally beautiful. The painting, which reflects each of Gray's sins and transgressions in its hideousness, haunts him until it finally becomes unbearable. In this dark tale of duplicity and mortality, Wilde creates a world where art and reality collide.
I read this book in my class. I will post a classic help as soon as I can. I enjoyed the way this was written and I love the story. I had to get this book after I read it. I believe it is a great reminder of what mentally challenged people go through. Steinbeck is a very descriptive author and everything is vivid. Here is the summary:
They are an unlikely pair: George is "small and quick and dark of face"; Lennie, a man of tremendous size, has the mind of a young child. Yet they have formed a "family," clinging together in the face of loneliness and alienation.
Laborers in California's dusty vegetable fields, they hustle work when they can, living a hand-to-mouth existence. For George and Lennie have a plan: to own an acre of land and a shack they can call their own. When they land jobs on a ranch in the Salinas Valley, the fulfillment of their dream seems to be within their grasp. But even George cannot guard Lennie from the provocations of a flirtatious woman, nor predict the consequences of Lennie's unswerving obedience to the things George taught him.
I read this book a long time ago and I really enjoyed it. I was in bed one night and remembered the plot but couldn't remember the name. I did some research and found it again. I can't wait to reread it and finish the series. I really like the concept. I remember this to be a fantastic book and I can't wait to share it. Here is the summary:
Ethan lives a secret life as a Guardian of the Named. Under the guidance of Arkarian, his mentor, and with the help of Isabel, his unlikely but highly capable apprentice, Ethan has become a valued member of this other-worldly corps. As the only defense against the evil Order of Chaos, the Named travel through time to prevent the Order from altering history and thereby gaining power in the present and the future.
As the threat from the Order intensifies, secrets of the past are revealed and villains and heroes are exposed. This gripping fantasy is set in modern times, but is infused with intrigue from the past, super-natural characters and surprising plot twists. Curley has written a winner through to the end.
I bought this at a thrift store and I know nothing about it. I have heard slightly about it. I decided to take a chance with this book. Here is the summary:
Some friends just fit together.
Once there was a pair of pants. Just an ordinary pair of jeans. But these pants, the Traveling Pants, went on to do great things. This is the story of the four friends—Lena, Tibby, Bridget, and Carmen—who made it possible.
I'll be honest that I have never heard of, seen of, or even knew this book existed. The only reason I bought this is because it had an awesome cover. I can't find a summary. Yup
This is a classic. What can I say? I've always wanted to read this.
I love the legend of King Arthur. I have always heard about this book and wanted to read it. This book is a classic and I can't wait to start it. Here is the summary:
Here is the magical legend of King Arthur, vividly retold through the eyes and lives of the women who wielded power from behind the throne. A spellbinding novel, an extraordinary literary achievement, THE MISTS OF AVALON will stay with you for a long time to come....
I have always wanted to read the Anne Rice vampire series because I enjoyed the movie "Interview with a Vampire". This book will probably be put on hold until I can obtain the first five of this series. I really love the cover of this book. It has a renaissance painting feeling which I liked a lot. I really can't wait to obtain the first book of the story. I have always heard good things about Anne Rice. Here is the summary:
We go with Armand across the centuries to the Kiev Rus of his boyhood--a ruined city under Mongol dominion--and to ancient Constantinople, where Tartar raiders sell him into slavery. And in a magnificent palazzo in the Venice of the Renaissance we see him emotionally and intellectually in thrall to the great vampire Marius, who masquerades among humankind as a mysterious, reclusive painter and who will bestow upon Armand the gift of vampiric blood.
As the novel races to its climax, moving through scenes of luxury and elegance, of ambush, fire, and devil worship to nineteenth-century Paris and today's New Orleans, we see its eternally vulnerable and romantic hero forced to choose between his twilight immortality and the salvation of his immortal soul.
I got this book courtesy of Blogging for books in exchange for a review. I wanted to try out something new and I decided this would be a good way. My friend has been interested in this kind of diet for a while so after I review it this will be a gift. I'm excited about trying these new recipes and can't wait to show you about them.
