Kendra and her brother, Seth, have no idea that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven. Inside the gated woods, ancient laws keep relative order among the greedy trolls, mischievous satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies. But when the rules get broken, powerful forces are unleashed, and Kendra and her brother face the greatest challenge of their lives. To save their family, Fablehaven, and maybe even the world, Kendra and Seth must find the courage to do what they fear most...
This book starts up quite slow. I, personally, could tell that this book was his first book, because it not as well written as the other series. I truly enjoyed noticing the differences and growth as Mull developed his writing style. It is a lot like watching a child grow up. The story was slightly slow in the beginning and then suddenly it picked up and went quickly. In the climax scene everything went quickly and seemed rushed compared to the beginning of the novel. After the climax scene, the novel became slow again and the end scene it picked up quickly. The end battle resolved very quickly. I wish that it had gone slower and there was more details and explanation. The conclusion of the story was as expected, a somewhat cliff hanger. I have not started the rest of the series but I will get on that. I really enjoyed the creatures and magical aspects. Over all I really enjoyed this book and Brandon Mull''s writing.
I recommend this book to younger children and anyone who likes fantasy. This book is suitable for the younger children because there are no big words and everything is suitable.
